In the past, those of us who are old enough to remember, most likely had a collection of LPs. This, along with cassette tapes were all we knew, and using a record player, we could enjoy our songs without having to wait for them to come on the radio. Today, technology is so different that it barely resembles its former self.
Those who enjoy music today can use small media players that hold all of their favorite songs, in a player that is barely larger than our thumb. The MP3 music player as a technology, initially surfaced in the mid 1980s but we would not see digital media player in its present-day shape until the late 1990s, 1998 to be exact. But as soon as it made its appearance it transformed the scope of music forever.
MP3 digital players utilizes audio processing technology to convert existing audio files to the MP3 format. The MP3 format consists of compressed sound files; audio that has been compressed into very small files that can fit onto an MP3 music player. It achieves this compression without loss to the actual quality of the sound file.
In some instances, it can be possible, depending on the memory size of the MP3 digital player, to hold thousands of songs within its confines. And that\’s not all, because of its size an MP3 music player is a portable device that can fit in handbags or coat pockets.
The MP3 music player transfers audio files through the use of a computer. The most fashionable MP3 player model, which is the iPod by Apple. With their unique iTunes software the iPod made docking to a PC easy and convenient for users. Many other MP3 digital player manufactures use Windows Media Player to connect their players to a PC.
Using a PC, users can either upload their favorite CDs that can then be downloaded onto the MP3 music player; or they can purchase songs online and then download them to the unit. Apple\’s iTunes is the most commonly used musical resource for buying and downloading songs, even though there are other services available online.
But aside from the convenience of downloading music, the MP3 music player is widely valued for its portability. It can be plugged into your car and played through your cars audio system, or radio with an FM transmitter, plugged into earphones and played while you do exercises, or connect to portable speakers and played throughout your home. In any case, the MP3 music player is the most comprehensive piece of equipment available on the market today to play music.
