Thailand Gap Year – A Great Choice!

The best time for a Thailand gap year is… always. Although Thailand is not so big it has different temperatures. For example the monsoon, the wet season in the east of Thailand is different than the monsoon season on the island on the west of Thailand. So there is always a way to avoid bad weather.
During your Thailand gap year you are in a great position to also visit the neighboring and never boring Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Malaysia. All these destinations have a lot to offer. You can see Ankor Wat in Cambodia, or the killing fields, you can go kiting in Vietnam, or visit Halong bay. And also Burma, Malaysia and Loas have a lot to offer.
The main attractions and must sees during your Thailand gap year are places in The north like Chiang Rai or as they call it the Golden triangle, Chiang Mai where you can do great trekking, Bangkok for shopping and to see the temples or as the Thai call it: Wats, then don’t forget we have the amazing Koh Phi Phi from the movie the beach and on the east coast of Thailand we have Koh Tao which is great for diving.
The main attractions and must go’s during a Thailand gap year are cities like Chiang Rai (Golden triangle) where you can be in Thailand and see Burma and Laos, a must see is Chiang Mai, a cool city from where you can do a trekking and see hill tribes, Bangkok for shopping on Khao San Road and to see Kings palace and the many Temples, to take the sky train and a boat ride over the Choa Praya. And so not forget the islands on the west coast, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket and the islands on the east.
Thailand offers many sports opportunities, so if you like an Active Thailand gap year Thailand is the place to be. As mentioned you can do trekking in the North of Thailand and on the islands you can do diving, load’s of diving. If you like rock climbing you can go to Krabi and there are all over Thailand options to go canoeing. Very popular is Muay Thai, This is the national Martial Arts of Thailand, there are opportunities to train with the locals.
It can be rainy season in one area and dry season in the other region. But even in the monsoon season it will be very warm, the rains are tropical, heavy but short and warm. No need for a shower afterwards.
The most important must sees while you are on your Thailand gap year are the beaches…there are so many beaches. All island in Thailand are great. So if you have the time visit them all, and try to dive as often as possible. But there are also nice and ancient cities that are worthwhile your visit. And what about elephant parks, cool too!
